Where to start - My story :)

It’s always a struggle writing something from scratch, but I to start a blog, I should start with my fitness and health story so far 😊

From the age of 16 to 21 my body didn’t change much, even through the boozey, sugar-filled world of university, I stayed at a constant eight and a half stone – which is around a UK size 6-8 – and as I am quite a little person (5ft 2), I didn’t think too much would ever change. This was standard for me, I was happy wearing little tight dresses and partying the night away.

After uni, I started work, up at 7am every morning (kill me), and at the same time, went on to the contraceptive injection. I guess it wasn’t the one for me, as I started CRAVING food. I was snacking on chocolate and sweet treats constantly, but thought nothing of it, as my body had never changed before…

But then it did. In six months I gain two stone and over the next year my self-confidence took an absolute nose dive. I was stuck in the circle of being tired/upset, comfort eating > then being more upset I was gaining weight. I pushed myself harder and harder in the gym but refused to give up my chocolate bars…so it was like I was on a constant bulking session (Not a pretty look for me).

Anyway, fast forward to Easter 2018, I realised my weight was pushing past 11 stone (not what I wanted at my height at all), my wardrobe now consisted of baggy clothes, I was still killing myself at the gym and not seeing results (p.s. in case you hadn’t got the memo from every fitness person, ever – you can’t train off a bad diet), and I didn’t want to go and see my old friends because I was embarrassed about how I looked.

I was so angry I couldn’t discipline myself. I’m the girl that:
  •          Got her Tae Kwon Do black belt at nine
  •      Got her second dan black belt at thirteen
  •         Trained in the army cadet force
  •          Got my GCSEs, A-Levels and a Degree
  •          Decided to fly to Vietnam on my own

And so much more…and I couldn’t stop myself eating damn chocolate bars. *facepalm*

So, I decided to make a change.

I am working with a local personal trainer who practically kills me three times a week with heavy weights (2 leg days and 1 upper body day), and I go to my local gym two/three times a week for cardio and flexibility training.

Food wise – the chocolate stopped – a good app I used (free for a week) is Nutracheck – which can scan the barcodes of the food you eat and has a data storage which tells you the calorie levels (and fat/carb levels) of everything you are eating.

This was really helpful, so I could see exactly what I was eating and my calorie intake for each day. It really is as simple as:

Calories in < calories out = fat loss

Shocking Isn’t it haha. So, three months later I am now down 9kg (1.5stone ish) and starting my journey on to body positivity and fitness. This blog will be my training plans, thoughts, reviews – the ups and the downs. Just an honest description of my fitness journey.

Thanks for reading – if you have any ideas on blog posts you’d like to see, please let me know here or on my Instagram😊
